Your Sony has a FireWire port, which may be labelled as 'DV', or else Sony calls it 'i.Link'.That's the connection which you need to send out your video clips to iMovie. You'll need to buy a 4-pin-to-6-pin FireWire/DV/i.Link (.all the same thing.) cable, as there's never one in the box with the camcorder.A USB cable will NOT do, as that can carry stills but not video. The FireWire/DV/i.Link socket is probably hidden under a flap, and it looks like this.and the cable which you need looks like this. Let's take them one at a time.(Er, you are trying to import from thetape, aren't you?.Not a teeny 30-second movie from the Memory Stick.?)First; make sure that under your Mac's 'System Preferences' you have NOT turned on 'FileVault', under the 'Security' setting. Do NOT use 'FileVault' if you're importing or editing video: a Mac can't encrypt video in realtime, and it's not normally necessary. If it's turned on, turn it off.'

.the program either states that the camera is shut off or not playing.' This sometimes happens, maybe the first time that one uses a camera which iMovie hasn't 'seen' (had connected to it) before. There are a few remedies, e.g; (1) manually press the play button on the camerabefore starting iMovie, so that the camera is already playing video down the cable when iMovie starts up; (2) if you already have some DV video on your Mac, start a new iMovie project and import a bit of movie from your hard disc into that project, and playthat in iMovie before starting to import from the attached camcorder: that sometimes reminds iMovie that it really can play DV video; (3) see the rest of the suggestions in.' .I get a pixalated view in the monitor.' Ooh; that doesn't sound good!

Thatsuggests that either your cable isn't properly plugged in, or there's trouble with your tape.and although the camera may be correcting any problems in its own little onboard monitor, nevertheless the signal coming down the FireWire cable from the camera may have 'dropouts'.meaning that some regions of the tape haven't been recorded properly: square 'mosaic' pixellation onscreen means that some parts of the digital data are missing. The camcorder may reconstitute them on its own screen by re-using bits of data from a preceding frame of video.but it won't send that kind of 'correction' down the FireWire cable. So you might want to try using a head-cleaning cassette in the camcorder, and making sure that the camcorder hasn't just been brought from somewhere cold to somewhere warm (which might produce condensation inside it), before trying to import into iMovie.' .no audio at all.' It's not unusual to hear no audio in iMoviewhile importing, but after you've imported you ought to be able to hear the audio.Suggestions: read ALL of Dan's iMovie FAQ (see above).

In iMovie, click oniMovie HD at the top-left and go to the Preferences, and under the 'General' tab, make sure that the 'New Project frame rate' is set to '29.97'. That's the correct setting for American 'NTSC'-standard video. Apple Footer. This site contains user submitted content, comments and opinions and is for informational purposes only. Hi,I ran multiple tries, checks, driver identification for ensuring that my Sony Handycam DCR TRV-38 is recognized by streaming media like Windows Encoder. This was a cake walk with my earlier Dell System on Windows XP. My latest laptop i.e. Dell V3000 series(OS - Windows 10) is not recognizing the handycam in streaming mode. But if I shift to photo-mode, the data-card is readable. But at no point in time does my device manager or streaming media software shows the Sony handycam credentials as recognized. Please help as my main objective of buying new laptop was to work on streaming media using Windows-10. At this point, the objective of buying the laptop is lost.

Please do let us know if you need further assistance on Windows 10, we’ll be glad to assist you.Thank you Anup.I went through the links and also through the Sony Community site. Bottom line, this handycam is not supported at this point of time.I would have appreciated an input whether we can expect the compatible drivers anytime in the future or I should simply forget either my handycam or the Laptop with Windows 10 OS.
